Green Blooms for St. Patrick’s Day – March 17 🍀

As March 17 approaches and we celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day, there’s no better time to embrace the beauty of green in all its fresh, vibrant forms. While shamrocks and festive décor certainly have their place, we love honoring the holiday in a way that feels elevated, artful, and seasonally inspired — through flowers.

Green is more than a color. It symbolizes renewal, hope, growth, and harmony — everything we crave as we step into spring. In floral design, green blooms bring texture, movement, and a sophisticated sense of depth that elevates any arrangement.

Did you know our owner, John A. Looby III, commercialized the Oxalis Regnellii (the white blooming shamrock plant) into a beloved houseplant in the 1970s?  He was inducted into the American Academy of Floriculture for his work.

Here are some of our favorite green flowers to celebrate the season:

Green Hydrangea

Lush and cloud-like, green hydrangea creates a soft yet structured base for arrangements. Its fullness makes a statement all on its own, whether styled in a simple glass vase or layered into a larger centerpiece.

Bells of Ireland

Perhaps the most iconic St. Patrick’s Day bloom, Bells of Ireland offer height and architectural interest. Their vertical spires add drama and movement — perfect for entry arrangements or altar pieces.

Green Trick Dianthus

Playful and textural, these mossy spheres are a designer favorite. They add whimsy and a modern edge, especially when paired with crisp white or soft blush tones.

Green Cymbidium Orchids

Elegant and long-lasting, green cymbidium orchids feel luxurious and refined. They’re stunning in contemporary arrangements or floating individually in shallow glass vessels.

Green Roses

Yes — roses can be green! From soft sage to vibrant lime, green roses symbolize growth and harmony. They’re beautiful mixed with ivory blooms or layered into monochromatic green designs.

Green ‘Yoko Ono’ Mums

Bold, vibrant, and full of personality, green ‘Yoko Ono’ mums are a showstopper. Their bright lime hue and button shape add both color and texture. They’re especially striking in modern designs or paired with crisp whites for a fresh, energetic look.

Styling with Green

Green doesn’t have to mean bold or bright. It can be subtle and layered — think varying shades from deep emerald foliage to soft celadon petals. Pair green blooms with:

  • Crisp whites for a fresh, tailored look, like the 2026 Pantone color of the year: Cloud Dancer
  • Soft blues for a serene spring palette
  • Blush or pale pink for a romantic touch
  • All-green textures for a sophisticated monochromatic design

In our flower shop, we often say that green is the thread that ties everything together. It grounds an arrangement while still allowing focal flowers to shine.

A Fresh Take on Tradition

St. Patrick’s Day is about joy, community, and celebrating heritage. Whether you’re hosting a festive dinner, sending a thoughtful gift, or simply refreshing your home for spring, green flowers offer a beautiful and elevated way to mark the occasion.

This March 17, let’s celebrate not just luck — but growth, renewal, and the beauty of the season ahead.

If you’d like us to create a custom green-inspired arrangement for your home or someone special, we would love to design something magical for you. 🍀💚
